Community Outreach Programs
On this page you'll see the latest outreach services that Cooke County Library is providing to the members of its' community. The programs offered will vary in content and service. This is just another way for the Library to reach and inform people about the services available.
In January 2010, the Director started the "1,2,3, the Story is Coming to Me" storyhour program for local daycare centers in the Gainesville area. Starting Fall of 2011, classes at some of the local school systems have been added. Below are photos from this project.
In July 2011, the Cooke County Library
was awarded a grant to continue supporting
the "1,2,3 the Story is Coming to Me"
community outreach project.
The library received $2,000 from Target for
an Early Childhood Reading Grant.
With this grant the Library is able
to continue providing 2 storyhours a year to
7 local daycare centers & give each child
in those classes a book to take home.
Plus was able to now offer 2 storyhours
a year to local school systems that have
pre-school classes. There are 5
school systems participating.

Children's Storyhour/"1, 2, 3..." Program Coordinator,
Ms. LaDean visited Sivells Bend ISD. She
read several stories about Autumn &
lots of falling leaves. We received
turkey stickers & leaf coloring sheets
to take home.



On Friday, 10/28/11,
Children's Storyhour/"1, 2, 3..." Program Coordinator,
Ms. LaDean visited 1 of the
Muenster ISD preschool classes.
She read 2 stories about trains &
railroads. We received wooden
train whistles that we used
during our train song.


On Wednesday, 10/26/11 the preschool
kids at St. Mary's Catholic
School were visited by
Ms. LaDean,
Children's Storyhour/"1, 2, 3..." Program Coordinator.
She presented a storyhour,
with stories about pumpkins &
Scat the Cat.


On Thursday, 10/13/11,
Children's Storyhour/"1, 2, 3..." Program Coordinator,
Ms. LaDean visited 1 of the
Muenster ISD preschool classes.
She read 2 stories about trains &
railroads. She taught us "library behavior".
We received wooden
train whistles that we used
during our train song.



On Thursday, 10/6/11 the Valley View ISD
afternoon preschool was visited by
Children's Storyhour/"1, 2, 3..." Program Coordinator,
Ms. LaDean. She read several stories about dinosaurs.
Then she talked to us about visiting
the Cooke County Library. At the end
we got to choose dinosaur eggs!



On Wednesday, 10/5/11 the Valley View ISD
morning preschool was visited by
Children's Storyhour/"1, 2, 3..." Program Coordinator,
Ms. LaDean. She read several stories about dinosaurs.
Then she talked to us about visiting
the Cooke County Library. At the end
we got to choose dinosaur eggs!




On Friday, 9/30/11,
Children's Storyhour/"1, 2, 3..." Program Coordinator,
Ladean Atwell visited Miss Pat's daycare.
She read them two stories about fall and friendship.
Each child was given a book to take home
to share with their family. Thank you to
the program's sponsor, Target.



On Thursday, 9/29/11 LaDean Atwell,
Children's Storyhour/"1, 2, 3..." Program Coordinator, visited
Whaley Mother's Day Out. She read to two different
age groups. Millie the puppet helped read
"Millie in the Meadow" to the nursery children while
the older children listened to two stories.
They pretended they were ducks. Each child was
given a book to take home. Thank you Target
for supporting the "1, 2, 3..." program.





OnThursday, 9/22/11
Children's Storyhour/"1, 2, 3..." Program Coordinator,
LaDean Atwell visited
Gainesville Headstart daycare center.
She read stories about
friends & togetherness.
Books were given to each
child for them to take home.

visited the Southside Baptist Daycare
Center on Friday, 9/16/11.
She provided a special storyhour
to the 3 & 4 year olds.
Children received a book
to take home and read with
their parents. Thanks "1,2, 3 the

On 9/9/11, LaDean Atwell, Children's Storyhour/"1, 2, 3..." Program Coordinator,
visited The Lighthouse daycare center.
She read 2 different stories
to 3 age groups.

books the kids received.



LaDean Atwell, Children's Storyhour/"1, 2, 3..." Program Coordinator visited the Angel Academy Daycare Center on 8/31/11.
She provided storyhour to a class of 4 & 5 year olds.
The story was "City Dog, Country Frog".
All of the kids received a book to take
home and call their own.

On 8/26/11, LaDean Atwell,
Children's Storyhour/"1, 2, 3..." Program Coordinator
had her first visit of the year!
She visited the Claude Jones Memorial Day Nursery.
She provided storyhour to the 3 & 4 year olds.
The 2 stories she read had to do with
possible Summer activites the kids did.
Children in the class received a
book to take home and read with
their parents. Thanks to
Target for supporting the
"1,2, 3 the Story is Coming to Me" project.



In June 2010, the Cooke County Library
was awarded 2 grants to support
the "1,2,3 the Story is Coming to Me"
community outreach project.

visited the Southside Baptist Daycare Center.
She provided storyhour to
the 2 year old class.
Several of the stories read were
"How Do You Read to a Rabbit?" &
"Make New Friends."
Children in the class received a
book to take home and read with
their parents. Thanks to

On 4/8/11, LaDean Atwell,
Children/Young Adult Coordinator,
visited Claude Jones Memorial Day Nursery.
Because it was such a beautiful day,
they shared stories about
dogs & bunnies .
Children were given their own
books thanks to Target & NETLS.




On 4/1/11, or better
known as April Fool's Day,
some of the kids at
Angel Academy Daycare Center
were visted by
Children/Young Adult Coordinator,
LaDean Atwell. She
read 3 stories to them.
The 3 stories made them laugh & laugh!
Each child got a "Cat in the Hat"
book to take home.

visited Whaley's Mother's Day Out daycare.
She provided a storyhour to 2
different age groups. They read
stories about rabbits and other critters.
Each child received a book to take

She provided a storyhour
to the kids in attendance.
They read stories about making new
friends, critters & sang songs .

visited The Lighthouse daycare center.
She read 3 different stories
to 3 age groups.

On Friday, 2/18/11
Children/Young Adult Coordinator,
LaDean Atwell visited
Gainesville Headstart daycare center.
She read stories about
taking a walk & a platypus
in pajamas. Books were
given to each child for
them to take home.

On Thursday, 11/18/10, LaDean Atwell,
Children/Young Adult Coordinator,
visited Whaley's Mother's Day Out daycare.
She read several stories
to 2 different age groups.
Each child learned about the
Library and was given a
book to keep & take home.

helped to sponsor this program.





On 11/5/10, LaDean Atwell,
Children/Young Adult Coordinator,
visited The Lighthouse daycare center.
She talked to them about the Library.
Then she read Thanksgiving
stories to 3 classes.

On 10/22/10, LaDean Atwell,
Children/Young Adult Coordinator,
visited Claude Jones Memorial Day Nursery.
She provided storyhour to
a class of 3 & 4 year olds.
She read stories about leaves
& how the rooster lost his
cock-a-doodle.
Children were given their own
books thanks to Target & NETLS.




On 10/15/10, a beautiful day,
LaDean Atwell,
Children/Young Adult Coordinator
visited Ms. Pat's daycare.
She provided a storyhour
to the kids in attendance.
They sang songs, like Scat the Cat,
took a walk & read
a story about crayons.
Every child received a book
to take home sponsored by
Target & NETLS.




On 9/24/10, a very rainy day, LaDean Atwell,
Children/Young Adult Coordinator
visited Gainesville Headstart daycare Center.
She provided storyhours to 4 classes.
Today's stories were about friends
& love. Two very important things!
All the kids received a book to keep and read.




On 9/17/10, LaDean Atwell, Children/Young Adult Coordinator
visited the Southside Baptist Daycare Center.
She provided storyhours to 2 classes.
The stories were "Visiting the Farm" &
the classic, "The Napping House."
Children in each class received a
book to take home and read with

On 9/10/10, LaDean Atwell, Children/Young Adult Coordinator
visited the Angel Academy Daycare Center.
She provided storyhour to a class of 4 year olds.
The stories were based on the themes
of Fall and liking myself.
All of the kids received a book to take
home and call their own. Thanks to the
"1,2, 3 the Story is Coming to Me" project.




On 5/20/10, LaDean Atwell, Children/Young Adult Coordinator
visited the Mother's Day Out daycare center
at Whaley United Methodist Church.
She provided storyhours to
two classes.



On 4/23/10, Childrens/Young Adult Coordinator, La Dean Atwell visited
Claude Jones Memorial Day Nursery,
a local daycare center.
Her visit was to provide a storyhour
to some of the children who attend.
The theme was "Earth Day".
They sang songs & read books about
animals & nature.
On 3/26/10, Childrens/Young Adult Coordinator,
La Dean Atwell visited the local
daycare center at Southside Baptist Church.
Her visit was to provide a storyhour
for the children who attend.
Miss LaDean read to ages 4 -5 .
The theme was farm animals.



On 2/19/10, Gainesville Headstart was the visited by
Childrens/Young Adult Coordinator,
La Dean Atwell. She provided a
storyhour to the 80 kids who attend.
The theme was "treasures" &
sneaky robbers.



On 1/22/10, Childrens/Young Adult Coordinator,
La Dean Atwell visited local
daycare center, The Lighthouse.
Her visit was to provide a storyhour
for the children who attend.
Miss LaDean read to ages 2 - 4.
The theme was colors.
