Story Hour Program

Every Tuesday at 10:30 am at Cooke County Library, a story hour for children & adults is held.
Each week there is a different theme and a different volunteer to lead the story hour.
The length of the program is between forty to sixty minutes. Various elements of the program include music, stories, acting, and sometimes a craft.
If you are interested in participating in this year round event,
please contact Children's Storyhour co-ordinator, Tamera Broyles at 940-668-5530.
Let's make this year's Story hour program as big a success as last year's!

Who's got mittens?
Ms. Tamera read us a mitten poem,
that we acted out. Plus
several stories about mittens.
We made paper mittens
stuffed with animals to take home.




1/24/12: Happy Chinese New Year!
2012 is the year of the dragon.
We learned & celebrated it! Our
artwork project was dragons which
will be on display in the Library from
1/27/12 - 2/10/12.




1/17/12: Ms. Sonia visited & read stories
about all kinds of animals: frogs, pigs, rats
& sharks. We laughed at the stories.
We colored pictures of the main
animal characters.



1/10/12: Um Um good! Soup was our theme.
Ms. Tamera read to us & we ate homemade
veggie soup on this cold wintry day.


1/3/12: Let it Snow! Let it Snow!
First we wiggly our wiggles out &
then it's time for wintery stories.
We made snowmen to take home.
And last but not least our
January snowball fight!




12/27/11: Happy New Year!
Ms. Kim read stories about New Year's
Eve to us. We celebrated by toasting,
shooting off poppers
& our traditional countdown
& confetti throwing.




12/20/11: Ms. Tamera taught us
about "Weihnachten"or
German Christmas. We sat out
our shoes out to see if
there would surprises.
After reading Christmas stories, we
checked our shoes & had surprises!



12/13/11: Cooke County Ballet Academy
performed their annual Christmas
show at Butterfield Stage Playhouse.
Ms. Tamera read "There Was An Old
Lady Who Swallowed a Bell" to us.



12/6/11: Miranda and Katelyn from the
Gainesville High School Reading Club
read "How the Grinch Stole Christmas''
and "The Polar Express."
Then we all colored a stocking
to hang up by the fireplace.



11/29/11: Storyteller Unleashed, Ms. Dru and her puppets
told us Native American Tales to celebrate Native
American History month. During some of the
stories she even let us tell the stories with her.
Thanks to Lizzy, Ben, and Grant Wilson
for helping with the puppets!
We all had a great time.



11/22/11: We celebrated
Thanksgiving with the Leachs.
We read stories about the
holiday, played pin the
hat on the turkey &
made pilgrim & indian hats
to wear at home on Thanksgiving.




11/15/11: The Gainesville Fire Department
read to us, showed us their fire
equipment & talked to us
about safety. We love having
them come every year
to remind us about fire safety.
Thanks!




11/8/11: The Gainesville Fire
Department was suppose to come
teach us fire safety. However, they
had a "fire call" so are hoping to be
here next Tuesday, 11/15/11.
So instead Ms. Kim read us a
story about Firemen & we
sang & colored with Ms. LaDean.



11/1/11: Gainesville High Schoolers
Margaret Stogner & Ashley Lumphin
were our special guests. They
sang & read 3 stories to us.
Even though we were a small group,
we had a wonderful time!



10/25/11: We celebrated pumpkins
& Halloween with
Ms. Jane from
Lavender Ridge Farms.
Thanks for the pumpkins!



10/18/11: We were definitely ready for fun, just
like one of the stories Ms. Kim read to us.
Then we found out why bears are trouble &
why cows love cookies. Plus we
got to have some cookies too!



10/11/11: State Trooper Tackett
talked to us about safety.
He read us a story about car safety,
but we also discussed street safety.
Plus we each got to take home
a backpack of safety goodies!



10/4/11: Ms. Angel from AgriLife Extension
read "Tops & Bottoms" to us.
We learned about hardwork, laziness
& gardening, specifically
carrots & celery.




9/27/11: We had two guests today from
the Gainesville High School Reading Club.
Collen and Wesley each read us a story.
We heard "The Frog Prince" and
"Boomer Goes to School." We also
sang "The Wheels on the Bus,"
a& found Boomer on our coloring page.




9/20/11: Ms. Kit Chase was
our special reader today. She
read us her story " Lady Q
Makes Quintessence."

9/13/11: Today we had fun with
Ms. LaDean & Ms. Kim. We
sang with Ms. LaDean. Then Ms. Kim
used a storyboard to tell us 2 stories,
"The 3 Little Pigs" & "Henry Builds a Cabin."
We got to be a part of the stories by
helping put together the storyboards.



9/6/11: Ms. LaDean read
"Llama, llama red pajamas".
We sang several songs
& just had a good
time together.



8/30/11: Marching bands
& music were our themes
at storyhour. We marched
& sang songs. Then to
end our Summer,
we had sno cones
thanks to Ms. Sandy Geyer!



8/23/11: Mother Goose
shared songs &
nursery rhymes with us.
We heard stories like
"Little Miss Muffet", &
"Mary Had a Little Lamb".
We sang "Twinkle, Twinkle,
Little Star." We just had fun!

8/16/11: Turbo & Max visited
with their trainers,
Ms. Pat & Ms. Marli.
We talked watch them
do tricks & learned about
their job as therapy dogs.
Best of all we all got
lots of doggie love!




8/9/11: Ms. LaDean read us
stories about ducklings
& crayons. We sang
some of our favorite songs!
Plus we decorated out favorite
book cover to take home.




8/2/11: What a time we had!
Storyteller Unleashed, Ms. Dru
brought all her friends!
We learned how to work marionettes,
puppets & put on a variety of shows!

7/26/11: We went to the beach
& the zoo in the books
that Ms. LaDean read to us.
The books were bought
to life by listening to seashells
& stuffed animals that
Ms. LaDean supplied.



7/19/11: Ronald McDonald & his friend
Mark entertained us with
"It's Reading Time with Ronald McDonald"
at storyhour today. He talked to us
about reading, taking care of books,
& how to read for entertainment.
He also did magic tricks, sang
with us & made us laugh!

7/12/11: Ms. LaDean & the younger kids
read about lost treasures,
sang songs & colored
their own treasure chest.
Susannah Cord came
& read her book,
"Fenella : A Fable of a Fairy
Afraid to Fly" to the
older kids. They discussed
why & how she wrote it.




7/5/11: It was picnic & marionette time
with Ms. LaDean & the younger kids.
While inside the older kids &
Ms. Susan explored fossils & a snake
in their Science Safari workshop.




6/28/11: The younger kids read with
Ms. Jill Linnell. They danced and
sang. They also held up pictures
to help her tell her story.
The older kids started reading
"Mummies in the Morning" and "digs."
They look forward to finding
out what happens next.




6/21/11: The Story Time Theater
was our special guest today.
They performed "Rumpelstiltskin
& the Princess."

Kelly the Clown was our
special storyhour.
He came & talked to
us about the circus,
Summer Reading Program &
performed "clown tricks".
He made us laugh!






6/7/11: Today was the storyhour
kick off to the 2011 Summer
Reading Program. We
read stories & sang songs
with Ms. Jennifer & Ms. LaDean.
Ms. LaDean & the younger kids
danced, read & made
thier own book cover.
Ms. Jennifer & the older kids
decided what topic/books they
were going to read this Summer.
By voting of hands, it was
decided Mummies & Egypt & "Digs".







5/31/11: What a special treat we had
at Storyhour! Mr. De Cee Cornish
was our guest. He is a storyteller
& he entertained us with stories
& songs about birds, frogs &
friendship. We can't wait to
have him came back!

5/24/11: Ms. Cathy from
the Morton Museum was
our guest. She bought
special items from the
museum. These items
were used by our local
Gainesville Community Circus.
She even wore one of the
clown costumes!
We read a story about circus
parades & sang some
of our favorite songs.



5/17/11: Lolly Pop the clown was
our special treat for storyhour!
She read Dr. Seuss's
"If I Ran the Circus". We
played with a parachute
& bean bags. Of
course we colored clowns.




5/10/11: "Boys & Girls of all ages-
Gather round & see what's
in store for you today!"
Ms. LaDean created our
own circus at the library.
We read about circuses,
created our own circus acts,
played circus games,
got to buy prizes
& watched a circus DVD.




5/3/11: Dance was our theme today.
Ms. LaDean read a book
about dancing. The
McTeggart Irish Dancers
group came & performed for us!
The performers were, Liam, Patrick
& Aaron Dhooghe. They have been
dancing since they were small.
After they danced for us we
learned a few steps too.





4/23/11: "The Ugly Duckling"
was the story presented by
Story Time Theater.
We really enjoyed
the performance!

4/19/11: Happy Easter
everyone! today we celebrated
Spring & Easter. We read "Time to
Say Goodnight", sang
all kinds of songs &
had an Easter egg hunt.




4/12/11: Spring was in the
air at storyhour!
Jane from
Lavender Ridge Farms
read us stories
about hungry caterpillars
& raindrops. We sang
songs about butterflies
& making friends.



4/5/11: April is National Poetry Month,
so today we celebrated by
reading Mother Goose Rhymes.
We jumped over the candlestick &
colred 3 Little Kittens.
For a special treat we had a
dance lesson with 1 of the Moms.



3/29/11: "The Mask in the
Moonlight Goes to a Party"
was out special treat
at storyhour today!

3/22/11: We learned our ABC's with
Ms. Kit Chase. She read "The Cowboy
ABC's" and drew each letter
for us. Then we colored our
own cowboy boots.



3/15/11: We had a lot of fun
singing Texas songs with
Nanny Annie. We sang
"Home on the Range" and
rode a stick horse.



3/8/11: "Caps for sale, Caps for sale!"
Hats were today's theme.
We sang "Yankee Doodle
Dandy" & made our own
hat with feather to take home.



3/1/11: We "kicked" off
Texas History month
with songs about Texas
& a visit from the
Stanford House line
dancing group.
Ms. LaDean read us
a story about pancakes
as we celebrate International
Pancake Day this month too.




2/22/11: Our special guest
was local children's author,
Mr. Blake Davis. He read his
book, "Santa Fe Santa".
We sang songs, colored pictures &
had a good time.



2/15/11: This week we learned
about Presidents' Day and
why we celebrate it .
We sang & played
instruments to
Etta James songs.




2/8/11: Today we celebrated
Valentine's Day early &
learned about Harriet
Tubman for African American
History month. We sang
songs about love & trains
& made Valentines to take home.




1/25/11: Ms. Kelly from Butterfield
Stage Players shared
the fairytale of
Jack & the Beanstalk with us.
We each got to take
home "magic beans"
packets.




1/18/11: Brrrrrr! Today was the
annual snowball fight at the Library!
Ms. Karen, Lydia & Samuel read
winter stories to us.
We made snowmen.




1/11/11: Under cozy blankets, Ms. Angel
read "Something From Nothing".
This story talked about quilts
that are made by hand & love.
She brought a homemade quilt
to show us the details.
We each got a piece of fabric
to take home, so we could
start one of our own.




1/4/11: At our first storyhour of 2011,
we read stories about mittens,
played a game about losing our mittens,
& colored winter scenes & mittens
to take home.



12/28/10: Celebrating New Year's is
what we did today at storyhour!
Ms. Kimberly read us stories
about New Year's traditions,
we made hats, toasted to
the New Year & had our
own special countdown!




12/21/10: We celebrated the holiday
with Ms. LaDean by singing
Christmas carols, reading
Christmas stories & decorated
pine cone Christmas trees.
Then we had our picture taken
in the Library's elf cut out.
Merry Christmas!



12/14/10: Today at Butterfield Stage Playhouse,
the Cooke County Ballet performed for us.
There were little & big ballerinas.
Ms. Stephanie read us 2
Christmas stories. It was a special
Christmas time performance.

12/7/10: Magician Brett Roberts
presented his Magic Christmas
show. He showed us a

11/23/10: Today was our Thanksgiving

& Thanksgiving.
We played Harvest Bingo,
made Indian headbands
& had a special snack.





11/16/10: November is Native American
Heritage Month. To celebrate
this special topic, our storyhour
guest was Rosie Atherton. Rosie
came & told us Cherokee tales,
taught us traditional dances & songs.




11/9/10: Today we had our first
visit of the school year from
the Gainesville High School
Reading Club. High School students
Emily Colwell & Wesley Plemons
sang songs & read stories with us.

11/2/10: Today was the first
storyhour of November. Ms. LaDean
read us a story about November
before our special guests arrived.
Today we learned about
fire safety with the
Gainesville Fire Department
& our special visitor, Sparky!









10/26/10: Today we celebrated Fall

We sang songs, read stories,
and watched a movie.
We even had a leaf fight!
We made Scat the Cat
to take home.





10/19/10: Nanny Annie visited
us at storyhour. We sang songs,
read & talked to us about
stranger danger & made animal
puppets to take home.




10/12/10: Ms Kelly from
Butterfield Stage Players
visited us today. She brought
costumes for us to try on.
Then we got to participate in the play,
"Amardillo Kids to the Rescue".
This play is running at
Butterfield Stage Players.

We read about police cars & got to color
in our own "safety" coloring books.




9/28/10: Ms. Donna Hertel was

We danced like falling leaves
& listened to stories about Fall.
Then we made sparkly leaves to take home.





9/14/10: Animals from around the world
was today's topic. The Leachs came and
read us stories about all kinds of animals.
Then we got to make an animal mask
to take home. Grrrr!





9/7/10: Rain, Rain Go Away!
On this very rainy Tuesday
we read stories, sang
songs & drew pictures about
rain with Ms. LaDean.



8/31/10: Today's storyhour
was all about vegetables.
Ms. Angel Neu read to us
"I Will Never Not Ever Eat a Tomato!"
We looked at different
foods & put them
on paper plates.
We decided we'd
like to try them at home.



8/24/10: School Days, School Days!
Today we read & sang songs
with Ms. LaDean about going
to school. We got to decorate
a school bus to take home.




8/17/10: Mr. Ryan from Frank Buck Zoo
visited us today! He read 2
stories about animals to us,
"Curious George visits the Zoo" &
"What do you know with a Tail like this?"
The coolest part was the special
guests he brought to share with us!
Visit the Frank Buck Zoo to
see more cool animals.





8/10/10: Have you ever seen a Whale Shark?
Do you know anyone who's
ever swam with Whale Sharks?
Well now we do! Mr. Dick Haayen
told & showed us how &
where he got to do this.
Our craft was making under
the ocean pictures.





8/3/10: Today Mr. Rich came &
entertained us with a variety of
performances. We sang songs,
he read to us & then we
had a puppet show.
We even got to make
& take home our
own stick puppet.





7/27/10: Clang! Clang! went the trolley!
Choo! Choo! went the train!
Today Ms. Kristi Rigsby, Director
of the Gainesville Chamber of Commerce
read us the story "Choo! Choo! &
then took us all on an adventure.
We got to ride one of the
Gainesville trolleys & rode the
train at Leonard Park.
There were so many of us that
we had to take 2 separate trips.
Thanks to everyone who
made these adventures possible!






7/20/10: Boy did we have all
kinds of fun today! We had 3 special
guest readers & a surprise treat!
Ms. Tanya from Butterfield Stage Players
read "Miss Nelson is Missing". This book
is a play that area kids are performing
in the next couple of weeks.
Young library patron, Sadhvika
read several stories to us.
Next Ms. Tina read & talked to us
about our 5 senses!
Our special treat was sno-cones

7/13/10: We met & sang our welcome
song in the children's section
before we went our seperate ways.
Ms. LaDean & the younger kids
had a picnic day. They read
stories under the big tree, had
a picnic lunch & then played
outdoor games.
While inside the older kids
attended a Science Safari
with Ms. Susan Campbell,
We learned about magnets
& how they worked. We each
made a project to take home.
But the bonus was when we
got to meet Lightning, the
corn snake!










7/6/10: Today we had a visit
from the Gainesville Home Depot
Kids Workshop staff: Kirk McBee,
Krista Pharr, Patti Brown,
Ray Brown & Johna McBee.
They helped show us how to use
tools safely & helped us build
special projects. Some of the
items we built were helicopters,
bug houses, bean bag tosses,
hardware sorters & periscopes.

the first Saturday of every month
from 9am to noon.






6/29/10: Today we were
entertained by Mark Shelton
in his "Strike, Scrape & Shake"
percussion show. He played
all types of instruments for us!







6/22/10: Ms. Ashley came read,
played guitar & sang
with the younger kids.
The story was about Milo
Armadillo. We made up
a song to go with his story.
Ms. Beth & the older kids
learned about
George Washington &
especially about him
crossing the Delaware River.

6/15/10: Story Time Theater
came & performed their play
"The Little Engine That Could."
The story was about
Little Red & Little Blue.
There were all types of
trains, like a commuter train,
a freight train, a circus train,
a mail train & a wagon train.
We helped flash green lights,
chug-a-chug the trains
& stop the trains.
We laughed & laughed,
but more important we
learned that if you
think you can do it
then you can!












6/8/10: Hopalong Cassidy & Old Timer
visited us at storyhour today.
They told us a story about
how they meet & how they
solved the mystery of
who stoled the creek.
They sang to us too.
We loved having
them visit!

6/1/10: Today is the kick off
for the Library's Summer
Reading Programs.
The theme for the youngest
kids is "Catch the
Reading Express." So
Ms. Jennifer & Ms. LaDean read
train stories & sang train songs
to the younger kids.
While Ms. Beth & the older kids
learned about US History &
Paul Revere.




5/25/10: Ms. Ann & her daughters
performed several stories as
puppet shows for us.
The stories were "Little White Duck",
"Little Red Hen" & "Dragonfly &
the Princess."



5/18/10: May is Circus Month
at the Cooke County Library!
So today we had a special visitor,
Checkers the Clown.
He talked to us about different
types of safety & we got
to help perform magic tricks.




5/11/10: Ms. Jane from
Lavender Ridge Farms
came for a visit. We sang
songs & read stories
about gardens & Spring.
We planted grass seeds &
got to take it home so we
can watch it grow!




5/4/10: Along with Ms. LaDean, we
celebrated special holidays in May.
First we celebrated May Day
& danced around the May pole.
Next May is circus month at
the library. So we read a book
about cricus dreams. We saved
the best for last- Mother's Day!
We made special butterflies
for our Moms.




4/27/10: Ms. Nancy came & read us the
story of ThunderCakes.
We sang songs, made
thunderclouds & ate cake.





4/20/10: In celebration of Earth Day on 4/22/10,
Professor Pflugelhorn & friend
taught us the importance of
taking care of our Earth!
We learned about recycling
through magic tricks.
We took a pledge to respect
our Earth & keep it clean!

visited us at storyhour. They sang songs, &
read stories. One story was for
Texas History Month
& the other one for fun.




3/16/10: Happy St. Patrick's day! Ms. LaDean
read "King Puck," a story about Ireland.
Then we had a special 2nd grade
guest who read to us. We colored
pots of gold and colored a rainbow
mural to hang on the wall.






3/9/10: Spring is here!
Miss Ann read stories on
spring weather like wind & rain.
We sang songs about Spring.
We made streamers & walked
outside to see how they blow.





3/2/10: One, two, three strikes you're out!
Baseball time is here!
Today Miss Meliss & Mr. Erick
read us stories about baseball!
We sang "Take Me Out to the Ballgame",
and "Thumbs Up". Then we decorated
baseballs & baseball gloves.





2/23/10: Oh what fun we had at storyhour!
We read stories about snow,
how special we are as people
& celebrated
Dr. Seuss's birthday
with Ms. Valerie & Mr. Rich.
Green eggs & Ham, anyone?
We made our own "Cat in the Hat" hats.





2/16/10: Today we sang lots of songs
& danced with Miss Anjanette!
She read us a story about Harriet Tubman
Our craft project was a big Unity
poster that hangs on the library wall.




2/9/10: Today we celebrated many different holidays.
First we passed around a big red valentine &
talked about love. Then we learned about Abe
Lincoln & George Washington for President's
Day. To celebrate the Chinese New Year
we did a dragon dance. We each opened up a
fortune cookie & ate an orange for good luck.





2/2/10: We sang & played with musical instruments.
Miss Tanya Chase from Butterfield Stage Playerscame.
She read us stories about Valentine's Day & Harriet Tubman.
February is Black History Month. But our special treat was her
reading her favorite book, "The Story of Ferdinand".
We then colored hearts for our special Valentine's.




1/26/10: Miss Lisa Beedle & her son, Dallan, sang songs with us.
But our special treat was the "Three Pigs"
puppet show that she did with Dallan.
We made pig faces for our craft.




1/12/10: We had our annual snowball fight
with Miss LaDean. Then we made our own
snowballs out of cotton balls.




1/12/10: We sang and played musical instruments
with Ella Jenkins. Dick Haayen read us 3
stories about snow and a lost mitten.
Then we made mittens to
wear around our neck.




1/5/10: Miss LaDean read "When it Starts to Snow."
We made snowmen out of marshmallows
and decorated them. Since it was so cold we
drank hot chocolate with marshmallows.
Then we warmed our hands by the campfire.



12/29/09: We celebrated the new year
with Miss Kim. We made 2010
party hats, made a toast to
the new year and threw confetti.



12/22/09: Deb from Butler Hill Ranch
brought a special miniature guest,
her horse Sarah Palin. Everyone
got to have pictures taken with her.
We sang Christmas songs with Miss LaDean.




12/15/09: Stephanie Stoffels from Cooke County Ballet Academy
brought 32 dancers to share a special
program with us. The dancers ranged in age
from 3- 8 years old & they did 4 different dances. We
read three books & sang Christmas songs together.




12/8/09: Gainesville High Schoolers
Shadae Jackson & Marina Nishimura
came. We sang songs and read Christmas stories.



12/1/09: Karen Leach & the Cooke County
Constable of Precinct 1 came
to share stories & activites. We made
"stone soup", colored pages about safety &
practiced our "Stop, Drop, and Roll" drill.




11/24/09: November is Native American
Heritage Month. Our special
guest today was Rosia
Atherton Parkhill. She taught us a
Cherokee song, told us Cherokee
customs & tales & had us play traditional
games. We each got our own feather &
special Cherokee name!





11/17/09: Ms. Robin & Autumn
read books on fall with the younger kids.
Plus we had a leaf fight & painted leaves.
While Ms. Rebecca taught the older kids
about Native Americans since November
is Native American Heritage Month.






11/10/09: Ryan and two helpers from the
Frank Buck Zoo came. After singing our
songs together, Ryan read us a story and then
we got to look at the animals they brought
from the zoo. There was a hedgehog, two
turtles, a blue-tongued lizzard, and a cute
dwarf rabbit. We all got animal masks to take home.




11/3/09: The Gainesville Fire Department and
Sparky the Fire Dog came to teach us
about fire safety. We learned how to Stop,
Drop, & Roll! Plus what to do in an
emergency. Everyone got to take home a fireman's
hat & got a tour of the fire truck.




10/27/09: Pumpkin Patch Party at the library!
Miss Jennifer & Miss LaDean
read stories & sang with us.
We had a treat & got to take home our
own pumpkin & a bag with a
bookmark, pencil, and coloring pages.






10/20/09: Buckle Bear came & talked to us
about seatbelt safety & showed us how to
properly buckle up in a car. For art we colored
pictures of Buckle Bear. It was a fun
and educational day.




10/13/09: Ms. Nancy Moore came &
read Fancy Nancy at Halloween. We played
with music sticks and decorated small paper
pumpkins for our fun art project.




10/6/09: Gainesville ISD High Schoolers
Audrey Bean and AJ Parmer came
& read books to us. We made "hand trees"
for our art project.




9/29/09: Ms. Donna came & read stories
about pumpkins & fall leaves. For an art
project we did leaf rubbings with crayons
& made leaf & fruit loop necklaces.




9/22/09: Ms. Beth came & we celebrated
Johnny Appleseed's birthday by reading
about him & doing an art project
with apples & stick puppets.



9/15/09: Ms. Katie came & we read
two books & had animal crackers.
We sang songs with Ms. LaDean,
danced with scarves, & played
musical "instruments".




9/8/09: Ms. Laurie came & we read a
story about Tacky the penguin & a
book about manners. We got to walk
like penguins & eat oreo cookies
after trying to make the cookie look
like a penguin. We sang with Elea
Jenkins & played music with
sticks. It was so much fun!




9/1/09: We watched "Corduroy" on an old time
movie filmstrip & had popcorn. We sang
songs with Miss LaDean, colored pictures
of leaves, & played outside in the
sunshine with a parachute of many colors.




8/25/09: Ms. Jane from Lavendar
Ridge Farms came & read a
book called "Zenia's Garden". She
brought fresh flowers from her
farm to share. Each child took home a
fresh zenia & colored pictures of flowers.




8/18/09: Ms. Kimberly came & we
read a story about Larry the polar
bear who likes to eat ice cream.
Then we made homemade ice cream &
colored pictures of ice cream cones.




8/11/09: Ms. Ann read us books
about colors, Pinkalicious, Goldlicious.
We sang songs, colored cupcakes
& then ate real ones that were
made special for us.




8/4/09: Miss LaDean sang
"The Wheels on the School Buss"
with us & then read us the
story, "If You Take a Mouse
to School." She had a puppet
pet mouse who helped read the
book. Then we had chocolate
chip cookies & colored.




7/28/09: Storyteller, Jiaan Powers,
came and told folktales from
around the world. We got
to participate & laughed lots!

7/14/09: Dick Haayen read books about
cars & tractors to the younger kids.

"Science Safari" taught
the older kids about optical illusions.
Each kid made an optical
illusion to take home.

7/7/09: Therapy dogs, Turbo & Max
came for a visit with their human friends.
We watched a DVD on safety with dogs
& how to care for our dogs.




6/30/09: Today Lolly Pop the clown
was the special guest for storyhour.
Lolly Pop sang songs & read stories
with the kids. Smiles
were found all around!




6/23/09: After Miss LaDean and everyone sang
together, special guest Miss Cinde presented a
fun program called "Wild About Books".
Miss Cinde shared two puppet friends,
an ostrich and an elephant, and did some magic tricks.
Afterwards the kids were able to color their
own picture of a book to take home.

6/2/09: Today was the 1st storyhour
in the Summer Reading Programs.

5/19/09: Ashley Hartman read us a pirate
story and sang songs with her guitar.
Then we planted pirate grass
and made pirate hats.



5/12/09: During our special storyhour, "Circus in a
Suitcase," the children helped our guest peform
magic tricks. Then we made circus
elephants on a stick.






5/05/09: Andrea Offner read the poem, "A
Penny for Mother's Dreams." Then
we sang and danced to "Weeping
Willow" and other songs.




4/28/09: State Trooper Tackett
came & talked to us about safety.
He handed out pamphlets
Then read us "Gloria & Officer Buckle".
We sang songs with Miss LaDean
& colored in the coloring books
he brought for us.





4/21/09: April is National Poetry Month.
So today we had "live poetry". The
Red River 4-H Cub came &
performed "Three Little Pigs"
& a variety of school poems.
We read stories & sand songs.
We laughed & laughed.















4/14/09: "It's a Big Bug World"
was our special theme today.
We saw & participated
in magic surprises!
Colored different insects
to take home.
It was lots of fun.
