The Cooke County Library promotes reading for all ages, but specifically encourages teens to read by offering a variety of programs.
Teen Read Week
Every year in October, “Teen Read Week” is held. The American Libraries Association is responsible for this national literacy initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association that is aimed at teens, their parents, librarians, educators, booksellers and other concerned adults. The continuing message of the Teen Read Week initiative is to encourage 13-18 year olds to "Read For The Fun Of It". Also during this week young adults can vote for their top ten books of the year. The Cooke County Library has a list of these and all the books for patrons to read before Oct. so they can participate in the voting. For more information on this visit this
ALA link. During “Teen Read Week” local community teenagers are persuaded to sign up and incentives are given to entice them to participate and complete this program.
The theme for 2008 is "Books with Bite". This year the event was held Oct. 12-18, 2008. This year's prizes will be from Dicho's Bookstore, Game Stop and McDonald's. Dicho's and McDonalds donated their prizes. Thank you!
