123 The Story is Coming to Me

1, 2, 3 the Story is Coming to Me

In January 2010, the Director started the “1,2,3, the Story is Coming to Me” community outreach initiative that introduces children to the concept and love of reading. The curriculum was developed for local childcare centers in Cooke County. Starting Fall of 2011, classes at some of the local school systems were added.

In May 2012, the Cooke County Library received its first of many grants to support this literacy initiative. This project has been funded in part by Target, NETLS, the Walmart Foundation, the John & Sandy Schmitz Family, the Cooke County Electric Charitable Foundation Operation Round Up, Edward Jones Financial Advisor: Lee Russell, Jim Goldsworthy State Farm Agent and Hector Flores, Modern Woodmen of America.

The library continues to provide 2 children’s classes a year to 7 local childcare centers and 6 local school systems that have pre-school classes. Each child in these classes is given their own book to take home.

The goals are to expose children to reading and the resources available at the Cooke County Library.
