The children at Claude Jones Daycare were surprised with a visit from the library’s Ms. Kim. As a part of the “1,2,3 the Story is Coming to Me” program, Ms. Kim read books about cars and trucks. The children made car noises to help the cars in the stories get to their destination. Thanks to the John and Sandy Schmitz Family each child was given their very own Truck book to take home and enjoy with their families.
The children at Lighthouse Preschool were visited today by the library. Ms. Kim read books about going to bed and what would happen if you brought various animals to the library. The children also learned about the services provided by the library. Each child was given a book of their very own to take home. Thanks to the John and Sandy Schmitz Family for your support of this project!
On 9-24-14, Ms. Kim read to the children at Ms. Pat’s and Ms. Donna’s childcare centers. The “1,2,3…the Story is Coming to Me” program encourages children to read and informs them and their families of the services provided by the library. Ms. Kim read books about waking up and getting ready in the morning. Then each child was given a book of their own to include in their home libraries.
In observance of elephant appreciation day, we learned about elephants this morning. We made elephant toothpaste with hydrogen peroxide, soap, yeast and water. It was awesome! Then we made floppy elephant hats. Thank you Lydia for reading today!
Today we kicked off our tenth year of the collaborarive artwork project between the library and local school systems. Gainesville Head Start’s artwork is on display from September 22 through October 4. Come see it! #youngartists #artwork #handprints
Ahoy, landlubbers! We learned how to talk like a pirate today with Captain Kim. We used a treasure map to find the hidden treasure. Along the way we read about pirates, made a pirate hook, learned the pirate ABC’S and learned that some objects sink while others float. Happy talk like a pirate day lads and lassies!
This morning our children’s class learned about monkeys! They practiced counting monkeys and sang about monkeys jumping on the bed. Then they drew silly monkey faces.
We celebrated Batman Day today in honor of his 75th anniversary. Ms. Irma and Ms. Kim read Batman books and taught us a few superhero moves. We played a Batman game and colored a picture of him. Thanks to DC Comics for our special event kits which included a poster, mask, bookmark and pins!
Our Literary LEGO class met again today. They built robots of all kinds. Some of the robots even made ice cream! Come in and see them on display this week!

Due to the huge success of our Literary LEGOs program, we started our second set of classes today. 19 kids joined Ms. Sherry to free build with LEGOs. They built awesome houses, double decker cars, a beach, and more!
